Part 1 of 3
Owning your own business is tough in any industry, but owning your own transportation company can be very difficult for a multitude of reasons, the insurance, regulations, level of competition, the list goes on and on. There are some very important things to think about before jumping in and becoming an operator.
What market am I going to target? This is huge when purchasing a vehicle and developing a strategy on how this new purchasing will be used. Knowing what kind of clientele you are looking to attract witll help start you on the right path to developing a clear strategy which in turn will help you develop a solid marketing plan to go after and secure that sector of business.
Where am I going to operate? This may seem like an easy question but understanding the territory that you plan on operation is big. Different areas may require specific permits depending on where you reside and if you wish to operate as an airport shuttle service you may be required to purchase additional permits to operate out of that airport.
These concepts barely begin to scratch the surface of what transportation owners and operators have to consider on their quest for success. For more on setting yourself up for success in our industry stay tuned for the next installment of our blog, part 2 of 3 – ‘I Can Do This’.
